Bill Idsardi sent me this link (
here) where Chomsky discusses the current state of the university system. He notes that what is happening wrt adjuncts and bureaucratization is not unique to the university but is being felt there more because of the earlier models of university governance. He also notes contrasts between the US system and those of other (including OECD) countries (here I think he idealizes the systems in other countries a bit). I personally found many of his points persuasive. You might too. At any rate, it bears on the discussions we were having wrt to the adjunct issue and the rise of a professional bureaucracy in higher education.
